Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began working as a TV and radio reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
